Which future for the “Malian Louis Vuitton”?
This Saturday, our #HighdigenousTalks series welcomes Aristide Sanon, a talented leatherworker known as the “Louis Vuitton of Mali” working at the Bamako craft market.
Kabakoo is pleased to highlight traditional leather goods, an art currently in difficulty due to the drop in tourist traffic in Mali and the local lack of recognition of this profession. Very popular in Europe, Malian leather goods are little consumed by the populations despite its quality, and this work is not really recognized. Yet, leatherworking is an art mastered in Mali and a source of income for leather workers and their suppliers.
As an experienced leather worker, Aristide will come to share his know-how and the difficulties he encounters in his career.
The talk will be live-streamed on our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Kabakoo
